Look Out Texas, Here We Come!

Wednesday afternoon we took off for Texas!
Say goodbye to our van--it's not coming back!

Our drive was pretty uneventful.  We saw oil rigs and a lot of Dairy Queens--and smelled a lot of skunks!  We stayed in Amarillo that night.

Texas waffles--who knew?!

We traveled all day on Thursday.  We met up with Ty, Michelle, and the girls at the Salt Lick BBQ Restaurant in Driftwood.  When we got into the parking lot, Afton came running to me.  When Ty put Eliza down, she did the same thing.  So much fun!!!

Matt and Stephanie Osborne and their kids also joined us.  While we were waiting for them to arrive, we enjoyed some live music outside the restaurant.

Michelle and Ty kept trying to get Eliza to dance.
They thought by showing her how it was done she might join in.

"Grandpa, what are those pokey things on your face?"

We told Eliza to smile.

It was so much fun seeing Matt and Stephanie and their cute little family.
Six adults and five kids--we were almost outnumbered!

Even though we were stuffed, we continued our eating celebration and stopped at Dairy Queen on the way home!  Eliza and Afton wanted to show us their ice cream cones.

You can tell they are military children.
They kept doing toasts or "cheers" with their cones!

And they loved sharing their ice cream with Ty.

Eliza came right to me at the very beginning, but she didn't want anything to do with Grandpa.  But at the restaurant Grandpa grabbed her and tried to show her the stars.  Then at Dairy Queen he took her and tried to show her pictures of ice cream.

That was all it took!  Then they were best buds . . .

. . . as is evidenced by this video the next morning.  Eliza is watching for Grandpa to come back from his morning run.

  1. Ohhhhhhhh, this is so fun to see! Thank you for posting.

The cheering ice cream cones made me laugh.

So glad Eliza finally remembered her attachment to Grandpa. Remember how she loved him as a baby?
