The B Date and General Conference Weekend

On Monday, for Family Home Evening, we invited the Nixons over for dinner.  Then Brother Nixon taught us about Family History and showed us a lot of great websites that can help us.

Did you know that Emer Harris, the older brother of Martin Harris, is my fourth great grandfather?!  He was baptized by Hyrum Smith.  He was an expert carpenter and helped build the circular staircase in the Kirtland Temple.  I was able to look at pictures and documents of his life.  I'll share them with you soon--but check out Doctrine and Covenants 75:30!

Tuesday evening Josh and Elizabeth went golf ball hunting along a creek.
They found 289 golf balls!

It was a difficult week for the Payne family in Mississippi.
After throwing up for over 48 hours, Afton was admitted to the hospital.  She was severely dehydrated.  She had to stay at the hospital all day and overnight.

Seeing the pictures of Afton reminded me of this picture of Dad and Jayna.  Jayna had just turned two--so she and Afton were close to the same age.  She was in the hospital for almost a week.
Thank goodness for good dads!

Friday was our B date.  I was in charge.
I hung a new "blackboard" I made to announce the evening!

We started the evening with "burgers" from Five Guys.

Then we played "basketball."  We played two games of horse.

Then we came inside and played two games of  "Blokus."
Can you see the "Baby Ruth" candy bars?

Then we made "Butterfinger Blizzards" and watched "Bronco" and the "BYU" cougars play football against Utah State while snuggling in our "blue" blanket.  It was a "blast!"

Saturday evening the boys headed off to the Priesthood session of General Conference.

While they were gone Elizabeth and I got Panda Express, played Rummikub, and watched one of my favorite chick flicks--While You Were Sleeping.

The boys continued their tradition of being the first ones out of the Church, going to Sonic, and then coming home and watching a game.  They watched the Ole Miss and Alabama game.  They were cheering for Ole Miss--so it was an exciting game!

Dad came up with a new Gorp for General Conference.  We forgot about the peanuts and pretzels and mixed all kinds of M&Ms together.  Genius!

General Conference breakfast.

Watching General Conference . . . or maybe just listening to it.

Remember how Sunday evenings Josh would get really antsy and drive us all crazy.
Not much has changed.  Just sayin.

Dallin's Pictures - October 4

These are pictures of the area in which Dallin is living.

Dallin:  "This is our new apartment."

Dallin:  "The bathroom is kinda small and its hard to see the shower cause it's in the light.  There's that hole in the wall."

Dallin:  "This is our church.  We have sacrament meeting on the 3rd floor and other classes on the 2nd floor.

Dallin:  "This is my companion, Elder Ortega.  He's pretty cool."

Dallin:  "This is Elder Nielson.  He's the only gringo besides me in our distrtict, which has 4 guys.  And our zone has 12 or 14. He's from Arizona and is pretty cool."

EFY Medley Around The World

As I have sung this song with the youth of the Church many times, I love this compilation of youth all over the world joining their voices together.  So inspirational!!!  This is truly a testament that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a worldwide church.

Dallin's Pictures - Sept 29

This is Dallin with his mission president and wife.

Dallin said he did a ton of hiking up a hill that was mostly dust and rocks.  But I had no idea he meant that literally until I saw these pictures.  There is no green anywhere--which really surprised me.

I don't know where he ate this--but it looks good!
He did say he eats chicken, rice, and potatoes for lunch every day.

Dallin:  "Our branch had a Linger Longer kinda thing on Friday night.  It was awesome!  But it started late, like everything here.  Like church starts at 10, but it's supposed to start at 9.  It's really weird.  I don't like it.  Ha ha!"

Dallin:  "Inca Kola is a soda that everybody drinks here.  It tastes like gum--I like it."

Dallin:  "That's my shower, when we actually have water."

Dallin:  "So Sporade is like cheap Gatorade."

Here We Go Again--The A Date

Dad got a new car this week . . . at least it is new to him!
It's a 2001 Lexus.  We were looking for a car with all-wheel drive--and this is what we found!

Josh and Elizabeth are checking it out!

Dad and I made our way through the alphabet with our dates.
We had so much fun we decided to do it again!
So we had our A date this week.  Dad was in charge.

He enlisted Josh and Elizabeth's help and we did an "Amazing Race."
Josh and Elizabeth gave us five envelopes.
Each envelope contained a clue as to where we should go.

First, we went to the mall and had "appetizers" at "Auntie Anne's."

Then we went to "Applebees" for dinner.

Then we were guided to an "activity."
We went to a high priest social at the Cho's home.

Then we were told to go to "Albertsons" to get a treat.
We bought "Andes" mints!

Then we were told to go back home to watch a movie while eating our treats.
We watched Captain "America" . . . . for 15 minutes.
Then we fell "asleep!"

Thanks, Josh and Elizabeth for helping us have an "amazing" date!

On Saturday, Elizabeth and I followed the pattern set by the boys for the Priesthood session of conference.  We went to the General Women's Meeting at the church.  We weren't the first ones to leave the building.  But we got burgers, fries, and custard on the way home and watched Pillow Talk while eating our dinner.
